Meru, the crater that gives the region its name. It is a popular destination for day trip visitors who are about to embark from the town of Arusha on longer northern circuit safaris. The small national park includes the slopes, summit, and ash cone of Mt. Meru, the Momela Lakes, Ngurdoto Crater, and the lush highland forests that blanket its lower slopes. Located on the way to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, Lake Manyara National Park is worth a stop in its own right. Its ground water forests, bush plains, baobab strewn cliffs, and algae-streaked hot springs offer incredible ecological variety in a small area, rich in wildlife and incredible numbers of birds.<\/p>\n<p>The alkaline soda of Lake Manyara is home to an incredible array of bird life that thrives on its brackish waters. Pink flamingo stoop and graze by the thousands colourful specks against the grey minerals of the lake shore. Yellow-billed storks swoop and corkscrew on thermal winds rising up from the escarpment, and herons flap their wings against the sun-drenched sky. About 20kms across, 600 meters deep and 300 sq kms in area, the Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder. It is home to the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth \u2013 the great migration of wildebeest and zebra. The resident population of lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, and birds is also impressive. There\u2019s a wide variety of accommodation available, from luxury lodges to mobile camps. The park covers 5,700 sq miles, (14,763 sq km), it\u2019s larger than Connecticut, with at most a couple hundred vehicles driving around.<\/p>\n<p>The Park can be divided into 3 sections. The popular southern\/central part (Seronera Valley), is what the Maasai called the \u201cserengit\u201d, the land of endless plains. It\u2019s classic savannah, dotted with acacias and filled with wildlife. The western corridor is marked by the Grumeti River, and has more forests and dense bush. The north, Lobo area, meets up with Kenya\u2019s Masai Mara Reserve, is the least visited section.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Tarangire National Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-960\" src=\"https:\/\/aawildlifesafaris.co.tz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/tarangire-np.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1885px) 100vw, 1885px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aawildlifesafaris.co.tz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/tarangire-np.jpg 1885w, https:\/\/aawildlifesafaris.co.tz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/tarangire-np-300x96.jpg 300w, https:\/\/aawildlifesafaris.co.tz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/tarangire-np-1024x329.jpg 1024w\" alt=\"\" width=\"1885\" height=\"605\" \/>Located just a few hours drive from the town of Arusha, Tarangire is a popular stop for people travelling through the northern safari circuit on their way to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The park extends into two game controlled areas and the wildlife is allowed to move freely throughout.<\/p>\n<p>Before the rains, droves of gazelles, wildebeests, zebras, and giraffes migrate to Tarangire National Park\u2019s scrub plains where the last grazing land still remains. Tarangire offers an unparalleled game viewing, and during the dry season elephants abound. Families of the pachyderms play around the ancient trunks of baobab trees and strip acacia bark from the thorn trees for their afternoon meal. Breathtaking views of the Maasai Steppe and the mountains in the south make a stopover at Tarangire a memorable experience.<\/p>\n<p>Herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. The park is rich of plants and animals such as Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) which can not be found in any other national park. White sand and blue water sparkle alluringly beneath the tropical sun, brand Saadani is a splendid place to visit. Situated on the wild shores of Lake Tanganyika, Gombe Stream is an untamed place of lush forests and clear lake views. The rare Sitatunga, an extremely endangered amphibious antelope, can sometimes be viewed escaping from the charging predators by hiding and camouflaging itself in the lake shore marshes.<\/p>\n<p>A visit to Rubondo Island National Park offers visitors a break from game viewing in the tranquil peace of a lake shore setting. Exploring the islands within the park creates an excitement for day trips. Fishing expeditions into Lake Victoria are easily arranged through the major lodges.
